Maximizing Monday

Monday MotivationMondays have always got a bad rap. In fact, it’s such a tough day of the week that it now has its own hashtag #MondayMotivation to help people start the week on a positive note. Although dreaded by many, Mondays are when your motivation and willpower are at their peak. Assuming you got some good R&R over the weekend, you should be energized and ready to take on a new day, new week and new recovery goals. Here are few ways you can make the most of this oft-dreaded yet crucial day of the week:

  • Set your alarm a few minutes earlier. This will give you a few extra minutes to do something you enjoy in order to ease into the week. Some ideas: meditate, go for a brisk outdoor walk, make yourself a healthy breakfast or scroll social media for an inspirational quote to start your day.
  • Call a friend. Picking up the phone and connecting with a trusted friend can be the perfect break in your day. You’ll likely have a much-needed laugh (or two) and you can motivate one another to have a great Monday and week ahead.
  • Set one goal. As you sip your morning tea or coffee, make a point to set one personal goal that really excites you. For example, trying a new type of exercise or reading a book that’s been on your list. Make it a goal that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning.
  • Do an act of kindness. Doing something nice for someone else – whether buying a friend a cup of coffee or writing a thank-you text to someone who has supported your recovery – is a great way to set the tone for the week and make the day better for at least two people.
