What Is Residential Treatment?

Residential addiction treatment center allows people struggling with addiction to stay on a rehab campus while they withdraw from substances and begin the early stages of recovery. A residential addiction treatment center will be equipped with recovery professionals and amenities to host clients for days to months at a time.

While living at a residential treatment center, clients live in secure, substance-free surroundings, away from the distractions, temptations, and triggers of the outside world. In this environment, they can address behavioral, emotional, and mental health with the guidance and collaboration of licensed mental health professionals.

The Need for Individualized Addiction Treatment

Every person experiences addiction differently. Genetic predispositions, past trauma, mental health conditions, and other issues can all lead to a substance use disorder. To truly recover, each of these contributing factors must be addressed.

At BRC Healthcare, our trained clinicians help clients to recover from addiction by focusing on:

Gender-Specific Concerns

We offer separate addiction treatment tracks for men and women at BRC Recovery Center. Many people are hesitant to open up about issues in the presence of the opposite gender. Sometimes, prior trauma or addiction triggers are related to circumstances caused by the opposing gender, such as domestic violence or sexual assault.

Co-Occurring Disorders

It’s very common for people to self-medicate to relieve symptoms of mental health conditions. When a person has a substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health disorder, it is known as a dual diagnosis. To promote lifelong recovery, both conditions should be treated at the same time, preferably by the same treatment team. We offer co-occurring disorder treatment at both of our residential treatment centers.

Trauma

Trauma is a common risk factor in many instances of substance misuse. Research has found a strong tie between exposure to traumatic events and substance use disorders. On the other hand, people with substance use disorders are also more likely to experience traumatic events. This puts many people into the cycle of traumatic experiences and a higher risk for continued substance use and relapse. Makana Path has trauma specialists that help clients specifically process trauma.

Chronic Relapse

Boredom and isolation are the main causes of relapse in early recovery. An undiagnosed mental health condition can also contribute to relapsing. Unfortunately, many people who relapse once are more likely to relapse again when trying to quit addictive behaviors later in life. A continuing treatment program like the one at BRC Recovery Center can help prevent relapse.

Career-Related Stress

People with high-stress careers, like first responders and law enforcement officers, are at a high risk of substance use. Besides the trauma that many first responders have to witness, the ongoing stress of constantly being on alert can be a major cause of substance use and relapse after completing a program. We provide career-specific programming at both centers, including our military veterans program at Makana Path.

12-Step Immersion

Addiction does not occur in a vacuum. The problems associated with it require additional support to resolve. In our experience, the most positive, permanent outcomes for clients occur when they participate in a combination of 12-step programming and evidence-based clinical services at both residential centers. Our staff are experts in the addiction treatment space, and they have an extensive understanding of the traumas, mental health concerns, and societal factors that must be addressed in order to ensure success.

Our residential addiction treatment centers are also a great place for people who have relapsed after beginning recovery. Many of the clients we help find lasting success in our program, even if they have been resistant to treatment before.

A Comprehensive Program for the Treatment-Resistant

Bringing Real Change is a program designed for treatment-resistant clients. Gender-specific campuses offer robust treatment that addresses co-occurring disorders, trauma, chronic relapse, and career-related stress (first responders, law enforcement, military, and athletes). Incorporating families with multi-family support groups, monthly family education meetings, and regular contact with the treatment team is a vital piece to our all-encompassing care.

Our Whole-Person Approach

Real healing and transformation occur only when physical, mental, and spiritual changes are made. Using a holistic approach that comprises a combination of evidence-based clinical services and practices that nurture the mind, body, and spirit connection, we help our clients recover inside and out.

BRC Healthcare’s residential treatment addresses an individual as a whole person rather than as someone who is sick, has psychological issues, or is being separated into different parts. Our holistic therapy programming includes:

  • Clinical services – Clients participate in individual and group counseling, 12-step support groups, and specialized intensive clinical workshops that address trauma, relationship patterns, and codependency.
  • Health and self-care – We set clients up for a total spiritual transformation that encompasses mind, body, and spirit. Clients improve that connection through meditation, yoga, nutrition, and cooking classes.
  • Life skills – Clients learn about accountability, goal setting, financial responsibility, and interpersonal communication.
  • Dual diagnosis treatment – Individuals who are experiencing co-occurring mental illnesses, such as mood disorders or personality disorders, receive proven psychological treatment from our clinical team.
  • Fitness – Physical activity improves awareness and self-esteem. Clients train with certified personal trainers five days a week.

We are dedicated to helping every client progress in recovery and develop the skills to change for life.
