What Is an NAD+ IV Therapy Program?

An NAD+ IV treatment is a type of medication-assisted treatment program. For treating addiction, it is a relatively new method for assisting in the treatment of substance use disorders. While approval is still pending by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it has shown great promise in helping people reach their recovery goals safely.

NAD stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It consists of two nucleotides that contain adenine nucleobase and nicotinamide. It is an active form of Vitamin B3 and is found in every cell in your body. NAD+ IV is administered through an intravenous infusion (IV) mixed with a saline solution and can enhance the effectiveness of addiction treatment programs.

An NAD+ IV therapy program can treat a number of conditions, such as:

  • Substance use disorders
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Heart failure

How does NAD+ IV therapy work? It can help with flushing all of the toxins out of your body and aid in the reduction of addiction withdrawals and cravings. NAD therapy is also a natural energy booster, which can go a long way toward combating fatigue during the recovery process.

BRC Healthcare offers NAD+ IV therapy as our BRAIN program outpatient services and inpatient treatment. We combine NAD therapy with other medications to treat the physical side of addiction while providing behavioral and holistic therapies to treat the mental aspect of this treatable illness.

Using NAD+ IV Therapy for Addiction Recovery

An NAD+ IV therapy program is one of the latest medicinal treatments that has shown great promise in treating addiction to alcohol, opioids, and other addictive substances. While more research is needed, early results have shown that this medication can:

  • Improve overall well-being
  • Protect the brain cells and functionality
  • Repairs DNA
  • Reduces addiction withdrawal symptoms
  • Decreases depression, anxiety, and bipolar symptoms
  • Increases energy and cognitive levels

When you enroll in a treatment program that offers NAD+ IV treatment, medical staff will administer the medication through an IV mixed in a saline solution. Dosage size can vary from 500-1000 milligrams and given over four consecutive days. After that, clients will continue to receive the medication two times per week for four weeks, then twice a month until no longer necessary.

In addition to NAD+ IV treatments, clients will work with a therapist in group and private therapy sessions using a combination of behavioral and holistic therapies. Using medication to treat addiction is not new, and there are other medications available to assist in the withdrawal process. Finding the right combination of medications can take some time, as each person’s physiology is unique and reacts differently to certain medications.
