10.9% – that is the percentage of addicted individuals in the United States who receive specialized treatment for substance abuse disorders. Only 10.9! That leaves a whopping 89.1% of addicted individuals stuck in the vicious cycle, wondering if that demoralizing and shameful quality of life is all they are destined for. With the opioid epidemic on the rise, and the number of annual deaths associated with alcohol and drug abuse skyrocketing at an alarming rate, it’s no secret that we are in dire need of a miracle in this country. We often hear the word “miracle” and think of something beyond reach. Winning the lottery, a burning bush spiritual experience, or instantaneous healing when faced with a life-threatening illness. Fortunately, the kind of miracle we are aiming to create here at the BRC Recovery Family of Programs with the Mark Houston Memorial Fund can come in small packages too. We are constantly asking clients to set aside their old ideas for a new experience, and this year, we ask that you choose to do the same. Please set aside the old idea that your contribution to the Mark Houston Memorial Fund couldn’t possibly play a part in creating a miracle. IT DOES! Each life that is transformed within the BRC Recovery Family of Programs is nothing short of a miracle, and each family member is given the support and direction they’ve been seeking for years. Each client who enters these doors broken, hopeless, and ashamed of the person they’ve become are introduced to hope, gratitude, and the sense of being loved and connected to people once more. Families are reunited after years of discord, relationships that were severely mangled are finally healed, and the futures for these men and women become bright and full of purpose. These are the miracles we see every day at BRC Recovery, Spearhead Lodge, and Makana Path. Without your contribution, big or small, we wouldn’t be able to reach the 89.1% who desperately need help but can’t find a way. Not only does the Mark Houston Memorial Fund strive to create miracles at through the BRC Recovery Family of Programs, but it also assists our alumni who are faced with relapse, mental health crisis’, and a host of other outside issues. When one of our beloved alumni finds themselves in need of further spiritual, mental, and emotional work, or has fallen into the grips of addiction once again, we are here to guide them to their growth by sending them to get the care they need at one of the many facilities we love and trust. Because of your contributions, we have been able to help countless alumni get the specific support they need, whether inside or outside of these doors. This year, will you be the one who holds on to hope for the hopeless and believes in the miracle of life? Kelsi will be focusing solely on our nonprofit, the Mark Houston Memorial Fund, in order to reach those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford the treatment they need. Prior to taking on this new role at BRC, Kelsi had made it her mission to help those still suffering in her home town get the help they needed.
